Created in 1999 by Tony Evans for his wife.
Marion graduated from Meridian High School in the class of 1938. She is the third member from her class to leave an endowment to the Foundation.
The Sinlin family came to Ten Mile Community and homesteaded on 188 acres in the year 1879. Approximately 1/3 of the original homestead still exists. It is located directly west of the third fairway and green of the Shuksan Golf Course, which runs along Ten Mile Creek to the Hemi Road.
Upon Marion’s passing, her husband Tony Evans created the endowment in her name. Not only was Marion’s family a pioneer family of Whatcom County, but also for several years, Marion and her husband owned Meridian Mercantile Grocery Store. Since this business was close to the high school, she kept a close ear and eye to the educational happenings and community development. Through this relationship, she became aware of the financial needs of students for post secondary schooling.
This endowment by Tony and Marion has helped many students, as she would have desired. Each year, the Evans Scholarship gives funds to students to attend universities, community colleges, or technical colleges.
